Lent Reflection: Choosing Life, Living Like Christ

During this Lenten season, we are invited into a deeper awareness—not only of our own hearts, but of the world around us. It is a time to pause, reflect, and realign with what truly matters to God.

At the center of Lent is the suffering of Christ.

As we reflect on this sacred journey, we are reminded that Christ willingly endured pain, rejection, and sacrifice—not to bring harm, but to bring life. His suffering was not rooted in anger, division, or destruction, but in love, mercy, and redemption.

And this is where we are called to look within.

If Christ suffered to bring life, how can we, as His followers, contribute to suffering in others—through our words, actions, or even our silence?

    The message is simple:
Choose love. Choose life. Choose peace.

Yet, as human beings, we often make this simple truth complicated. Our flesh leans toward pride, fear, control, and reaction. We justify division. We hold onto anger. We resist humility.

But Christ shows us another way.

Even on the cross, in the midst of unimaginable suffering, He prayed for others:
    “Father, forgive them…”

This is the example before us.

Lent is not just about remembering His sacrifice—it is about reflecting His heart.

A Call to Change: Three Ways to Live This Out

    1. Pray to Become Like Christ, Not Just for Change

Instead of only praying for situations to change, begin praying:
“Lord, make me more like You.”

Ask for His heart—one that loves, forgives, and seeks peace even in difficulty.

    2. Choose Compassion Over Reaction

When faced with frustration, disagreement, or conflict, pause.

Christ did not react in anger—He responded in love.

    Before speaking or acting, ask:
“Does this bring life, or does this bring harm?”

    3. Be a Reflection of Peace in a Divided World

We cannot control the world, but we can control how we show up in it.

    Choose kindness.
    Choose understanding.
Choose to uplift rather than tear down.

Small actions, rooted in Christ, create lasting impact.

    Closing Thought

The plan God has given us is not complicated.

    Love one another.
Forgive as you have been forgiven.
    Walk in humility and grace.

But it is our human nature that makes it difficult.

This Lent, let us not just remember Christ’s suffering—
let us honor it by becoming more like Him.

Because in a world that often chooses conflict,
we are called to choose Christ.
